Little Aosta – or LA as locals affectionately call it – is Ben Bayly’s family-friendly Italian restaurant tucked behind Aosta in the heart of Arrowtown. About Chef Ben Bayly

The menu at Little Aosta is crafted by award-winning chef Ben Bayly, whose love of Italian cuisine began in Italy’s Valle D’Aosta. Combining traditional Italian techniques with fresh, locally sourced ingredients, Ben brings passion and expertise to every dish.

Raised in the farming community of Te Awamutu in the Waikato, Ben’s culinary journey spans almost a decade of global experience, working alongside world-class chefs in France, Italy, and the United Kingdom before returning to New Zealand.

Winner of the 2024 ‘Best Restaurant in New Zealand’ award for his three-hatted Auckland restaurant Ahi, and two-hatted Aosta, Ben is renowned for creating simple, authentic Italian cuisine with care and flavor. Beyond his kitchens, he is celebrated for nurturing culinary talent, contributing to New Zealand’s food culture, and sharing his expertise on television, including four seasons of A New Zealand Food Story and The Restaurant That Makes Mistakes, in partnership with the Young Onset Dementia Collective.
